Sony’s about to release a Digital Picture Frame soon, in time for the holiday season.  The 7-inch DPF-D72N/BQ Digital Picture Frame boasts a LCD WVGA display, comes with a remote control, has light and vivid colors, has a 16:10 aspect ratio LCD, has several playback selections, and has a resolution of 800×480.  It will have 1GB of internal memory to save and hold your pics.  Sony says that this digital LCD frame can save 2,000 pictures, which is way too many for a slideshow!  Which image formats does the Sony digital picture frame work with?  It supports RAW and JPEG, and it is necessary to understand that all of the digital cameras support the JPEG format, so rest assured that this digital frame will work with your digital camera.

It is capable to use most of the popular memory cards and it is able to receive pictures by using a USB port.  This is a list of all the memory card types that the frame supports: Secure Digital (SD), xD-picture cards, Compact Flash Card Type I and Type II, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, and Multi-Media Card (MMC).

A couple of features include Auto Rotation and Auto Resizing, and these two features will always come in handy.  Auto Resizing automatically shrinks or enlarges your pics for best viewing, with minimal or no loss to the photo’s dimensions or attributes.  Just as well, the Auto Orientation sensor automatically spins your photos into landscape or portrait format.  The use of this feature you are allowed to put up your digital lcd frame horizontally or vertically, but, images are shown much better in landscape.

Additional features include several different view modes, a clock and a calendar.  The frame will be around 150 U.S. dollars when it enters the market.

But, there are some features that are absent in this Sony digital picture frame, namely audio, video, and wireless.  While in today’s market wireless is the rule, it is kind of concerning that Sony would come out with this digital picture frame without wireless support.
