Turn Your DS Into A PDA With The R4 DS Card And DSOrganize

As soon as I get some new software – the very first order of business is to put it to the test and see just what it can do. Not just the functions that can be performed based on what’s on the box. It was – without a doubt – not different in any way than when I got my R4 DS. I immediately got online to read and devour any information I could about NDS homebrew games.

I had read about some really cool applications for the DS and DSi. The homebrew application that really got my excited and caught my eye immediately was DSOrganize – the Origanizer for your Nintendo DS.  You’ll need an R4 DS Card or an R4i for DSi in order to use this cool piece of software. This cool little piece of homebrew will turn your Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi xl into your personal digital assistant – your hand held pda.

It is really one functions that should have been integrated right from the start on both the original NDS and the new Nintendo DSi console. It really should just be natural for ys ti be able to use the Nintendo DS I already have with me to function as somewhat a multi purpose – multi function device – the Sony PSP can do it – why not the DS. Nintendo can’t claim the DS can’t do it – its more than powerful enough to do a lot of things besides just game play. Really, almost every single bottom of the shelf mobile phone has this built in – in one form or another.

However, DS Organize is anything EXCEPT limited. Once you put it on to your R4 DS and load it up on the Nintendo DS, you’re greeted with numerous options. Built into this amazing little bit of nds homberew software is a Calendar, Day Planner, Address book, ToDo List and even a scribble pad to draw or sketch little pictures or make notes using the stylus on your Nintendo DS.

The best part of this is the built in web browser. Both the DS and DSi XL have WiFi capabilities out of the box but they’re useless as you simply cannot get online to check out any websites. Thanks to DS origanize and the r4 ds card you really can browse the web on your NDS. While the browser is limited in this version, there are promises from the developer to improve it. Since it’s the first version, the browser is sort of basic – but even at this stage of the game, it blows away what even commercial browsers can do.

DS organize is an amazing example of homebrew applications at work, given away for free to R4 DS owners
