Panasonic Crams HD Video Into New Digital Camera

We’ve all heard about HD camcorders but what about little digital compact cameras offering high definition video recording?

Panasonic is among the first to offer it up with the new Lumix DMC-FX35, a compact snapper that will take 720p HD video at 30fps. You can even watch your video straight from the camera on your HDTV using an optional component cable (DMW-HDC2). What, no HDMI?

The FX35 is Panny’s first 10.1MP compact camera and it boasts a useful 25mm ultra-wide-angle LEICA DC lens and 4x optical zoom. The Easy Zoom feature shifts the lens to 4x instantly with a dedicated button and there’s a new Face Detection System that can lock-in on up to 15 mugs at once in a split second.

Two anti-blurring technologies are used to reduce those jitters and the new image-processing LSI, Venus Engine IV, offers up much faster shutter speeds, less colour bleeding and less picture noise.

No prices yet but due out in a few weeks.-Martin Lynch
