Dell 3007WFP-HC LCD Gets Pumped For HP Showdown

Dell 3007wfp_HC.jpg
Dell’s XPS wasn’t the only thing that got an update this morning. Their highly-coveted 30-inch monitor also got some modest, yet very welcome upgrades. The UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC now has a 92 percent color gamut, which Dell claims will deliver brighter, crisper colors. It also has a faster 8ms grey-to-grey response time (vs 11ms on the old panel), in addition to all the features found on the original panel (like a 9-in-2 card reader and 4 USB ports). The monitor goes on sale on the 21st and will set you back $1,699, putting it right up there with HP’s equally-priced LP3065. The holidays are just around the corner, so I’m hoping for some nice price wars between HP and Dell before snagging one for myself.

Dell Gives XPS Line the Quad Treatment

Dell XPS 710.jpg
In case your dual-core desktop was starting to show its age, Dell is now cramming a quad-core processor inside its top of the line XPS desktop. The new XPS 710 packs Intel’s 2.66GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6700 quad-core CPU, letting you throw any multi-threaded app you can find its way. For expansion, the desktop has four memory slots alongside seven expansion slots that comfortably fit as many video cards as you can afford. All this goodness is gonna cost you though. The XPS (available today) starts at $3,699. Having the extra horsepower under the hood sounds inviting, but personally there’s few multi-threaded apps (if any) in my library to justify splurging close to $4 grand on a desktop.

Brando Dock Docks Everything

brandodock.png

Why dock one thing when you can dock everything? This multi-functional dock from Brando not only docks your iPod (3G and up), allowing it to sync with iTunes and recharge, but there’s support for Sony Ericsson phones, Nokia phones, and PSPs.

It’s not quite the everything that we had hoped for, but since Brando releases 83 items a week, we’re sure they will release a dock that docks your RAZR, Xbox 360, Meizu Mini Player, Dell 2407FP, Sonicare Toothbrush, other docks, HTC phones, your glasses, the USS Enterprise (D, not E), an ex-girlfriend, Charlie White, a boat, ColecoVisions, the International Space Station, Sony’s E-Reader and a Lexus.

But not the Zune.

700MHz Dell Refurb OptiPlex Celeron for $47.91

refurbdell.jpgNeed a cheap file server, Linux machine, or emailing machine? How about a refurbished 700MHz Celeron for $47.91. It’s really bare-bones, with only 128MB of RAM, a 10GB hard drive, Windows 2000 (not installed), onboard Video and Audio, two PCI slots, one AGP slot, and four USB slots. Not bad for $47 though.

New Monty Python Video From…….Dell?

dell toon.jpg

There’s nothing more embarrassing than companies trying to be hip. It’s like watching your 60-year old Dad, wearing orange and pink lycra cycling shorts, parading around the kitchen in front of your mates talking about how cool YouTube is.

Only Ricky Gervais managed to pull off anything remotely funny for Microsoft, but Dell’s efforts to emulate a Monty Python cartoon is so bad (all 4 minutes of it), it makes your skin want to crawl right off your back.

Let’s just say that there’s Michael Dell in a knight’s armour – that’s ‘K’niggits’ to those in the know - singing and rousing the peasant masses to move away from Proprietaryville. Oh Lord. You can already feel your skin crawling, can’t you?

Just press the link, if you dare. Feel free to describe your reaction in the Comments section.-Martin Lynch

Who is This Dell ‘Viral’ Ad For?

Four minutes long and loaded on YouTube, this Dell “ad” features Michael Dell, Oracle’s Larry Ellison and Intel’s Paul Otellini, among others. Why is it so bad? Because it’s confusing who this ad is actually for. It’s definitely not for consumers, and with all the talk/singing of partners and relationships, we think it’s for other businesses. But…with a viral video that looks like it was made by Jib Jab?

Sony Joins the Club of ‘Laptop Companies Recalling Sony Batteries’

sonybattery.jpgIt took the recalls of Dell, Apple, Hitachi, Fujitsu, Lenovo and Toshiba Sony-branded laptop batteries for Sony to realize that there may be a problem. They will be recalling 90,000 of the batteries used in their Vaio series of laptop computers. The majority of which are in Japan and China.

Sony also said that they may have to revise their annual earnings outlook for this year because of the battery non-sense and also to compensate for a price cut for the PS3 in Japan. Damn, Sony. Looks like it may be a tough year.
