Starship Voyager Flat Up For Sale - Again

voyager flat.jpg

Regardless of taste, or lack thereof, if you have a spare £500,000 knocking around in your skintight Starship cadet’s uniform, you’ll be able to buy your very own Starship Voyager-themed flat in Hinckley, Leics.

Designed by Tony Alleyne, who ran into a spot of bankruptcy, this lovingly crafted one-bedroom homage is now half the price it was when he tried to flog it on Ebay not so long ago. For your cash you get moulded walls, space age lighting, a life-size transporter room, and a ‘warp coil’, which replaced the fridge. It is quite stunning, if a bit OTT.

So let’s look at the math: he bought the flat for £27,000, went bankrupt after spending £175,000 doing it up (maxing out 14 credit cards on the way), tried to sell it for over £1,000,000 and has now dropped the price to £500,000. C’mon, help a Trekkie out. Penny for the ex-Starship Captain, anyone? Regardless of what happens, hats off to the incredibly, realistic make-over.-Martin Lynch

Spock’s Space Suit Beams Up For $10,100

star-trek-i-spacesuit.jpg
Trekkie alert. For those of you that collect movie memorabilia, then you’ll be interested to know that Spock’s space suit from the original Star Trek movie has just sold on eBay for $10,100. The rest of us can go back to sleep, safe in the knowledge that we just saved £5,000.

I’m not sure if that’s a lot for a Trek suit but I’d imagine not. The suit was worn by Spock on leaving the Enterprise to pull off a mind-meld with the V’Ger Probe. There were, surprisingly, only 14 bidders. It would be therefore overstating it if it could be called a bidding war, especially since bids stayed below the $5,000- mark for the first 10 bids.

Just before closing the hard-core collectors emerged and within four bids the price topped $10k. See lots of photos and details here. Personally, I’d prefer the Star Trek Home Cinema, which cost just $7,500. -Martin Lynch

Thieves Swipe 42 iPod nanos, Not Realizing Two 80 GB iPods Would’ve Done the Trick

A 30-pound Plexiglas display case containing 42 iPod nanos walked out of an Apple Store in Boulder, Colorado, courtesy of either very sneaky shoplifters, snoozing store clerks, or some devious combination of the two. You’d think someone walking out of an Apple Store carrying a big glass box filled with $8705 worth of nanos would be rather conspicuous, but apparently in Boulder people do it all the time, since no one noticed anything suspicious and police have no suspects. So if you see a set of 42 nanos in a “handsome display case” up for sale on eBay this weekend, bid with caution. – Matt Buchanan

P.S. Cobbling together the information given to us and utilizing our crack Law and Order skills, we came up with a rendering of the suspect, which you can see on the right, so be on the lookout.
