Dad buys Sat Nav

Having my dad just purchase the Sat Nav I can now give the full detailed verdict on the product. He was lucky enough to actually get this for free as his company paid for it but there have been several issues that we have had to take on with it so far.

The product is a brilliant idea for anyone who is bored of getting out a map at every corner or perhaps on the verge of a divorce because the wife is still giving out the wrong directions. The real problem is that it turns into your wife because if it makes a mistake it then blames you for it by saying turn around, turn around, turn around (you get the idea). There was one time where the stupid thing even tried to lead us into a road that didnt exist.

Another bad yet amusing issue is that he insists on using it for everything, even the easiest of trips now take longer while we wait for he crazy Sat Nav woman to tell us the way. I

The Sat Nav is best used in foreign countries where you have no idea where to go at all. When you are in a foreign country it can be nice to be told the directions by somebody other than your wife or someone you do not understand.

Replacing them is not easy either which is why some form of Sat Nav Insurance will need to be taken out to avoid nasty replacement costs. Of course you could get gadget insurance as this actually sets out to cover you against other things like phones and games consoles. Sometimes you do not need to take out that extra mobile phone insurance

Protect Your Gadgets With Insurance

Technology is great there is no doubt about that. With new recent breakthroughs in the form of the new iPhone being able to recognise voice recognition to the new announcement that Microsofts Project Natal for the Xbox 360 is set to have full body motion sensing capabilities with no wires and nothing plugged into you in any way at all.

However, what happens when a part inside breaks? In some cases, the costs to repair the gadgets can be more than you initially paid for them. A lot of the time it is their fault for not making the product as good as it should have been to begin with. Although the Xbox 360 has been proven to be the best console in this latest console generation, it does have one problem with it. The three red rings. To any Xbox 360 owners, seeing the red rings is horrible because you basically have to hand over your wallet. The only way to avoid paying around 50 pound for a repair is if your console is in warranty.

It was very rare if one of your older consoles ever broke like the N64 or Playstation 1, but now we are not just seeing Xbox 360 failures, a large amount of PS3’s and Nintendo Wii’s are also being sent away to be fixed. It could be down to more people are playing games due to the huge amount being released within the last few months, or, it could be down to the manufacturers not fixing the problems and just selling more machines.

There are solutions now to avoid you having to fork out the cash and it comes from gadget insurance. This can be purchased to cover up to five of any gadgets you can think of for just under 20 a month. Although the price does seem high, it’s alot less than if you had to repair just one of your gadgets each month. This is mainly due to the fact that if for instance you were to drop your iPhone it would cost you around 100 to repair. So if you consider the maths, insuring 5 gadgets for 20 pounds a month isn’t too much to pay to avoid paying 100 pound everytime you drop your phone. As well as this, for fixing consoles like the Nintendo Wii, sometimes it would be cheaper to buy a new one as they can charge you up to around 180 pounds for a repair.

Also, if you are only looking to insure one item and not 5, no matter what type of gadget it is, you can simply pay for Xbox 360 Insurance by itself. Unfortunately, many companies that offer home emergency insurance policies don’t cover any damage or theft to your gadgets.

Mobiles Abroad

about taking your mobile phone with you? The first thing I would say is don’t even bother and the second is that if you are then make sure you have cheap mobile phone insurance.

Reasons

One of the main reasons that you should not be taking your mobile phone with you is because it just gets in the way of everything and does not need to be with you. The thing is if you take your mobile with you then you are going to be calling the people that you miss because they are there on the phone to be called. The thing is it is still going to be there when you get back so if you are really that desperate to use a phone just use a pay phone. This is something that is a lot cheaper than using your mobile to make the call.

Another reason why you really should not be using the phone is the roaming charges you can get from the net. This is even more so for phones such as the iPhone as they will charge you a lot of money for using the internet even if it is just a mistake.

Although you could get gadget insurance for breakages abroad it will not cover you from the mistakes you can make from all of the browsing that can be done. As well as this you will find that a text is going to set you back a lot too so just be warned on that one.

One of the main things that you can learn from this is that taking the phone with you is just not worth all of the hassle. If you are going on holiday then make sure you look into car hire insurance because at least then if something happens you are covered.

A Bit Of Santa Training

Yes that’s right, because its almost that time of year where hundreds people get into those big red suits to help kids to have a great Christmas it has been noticed that here in the UK the majority of men going for the job are of the older generation.

With all of the recent gadgets that are around these Santas are going to need a lot of training so they know what all of the kids are actually talking about when they are asking around.

The company PC World has come forward offering help to these Santa’s in need. Although I am not sure PC World are the best guys for this as whenever I have popped in they seem to know a lot about PCs but nothing about game consoles and the like and they don’t even stock the most recent releases on the consoles!

In theory this is in place to teach the santas about all of the newest gadgets that are out like the Xbox 360 and others such things. This is sill and does not need to happen at all. I do not a kid that sees Santa that knows hte exact specs od any of these things? It all seems to me like a bit of a waste of time as they could learn it themselves.

The one thing that these Santa’s are not being told is how much these items cost to replace so it is well worth looking into getting some gadget insurance or at the very least something like laptop insurance or even cell phone insurance or you could find a very unhappy kid come January.

Make sure that this year when you take your kid to see Santa that he is trained.

So make sure that this year when you are going to see Santa that he knows exactly what your kid is on about or you could find yourself in a spot of trouble!

Gadgets That Haven’t Changed The World

The last decade has seen a huge move forwards in technology. This progression of technology has been no more apparent than in the home. There are have been advances in things such as cooking equipment, home entertainment and Internet access. That said, with every good thing there comes bad, and there have been lots of gadgets over the years that have given technology a bad name.

 

Well now, Sheila’s Wheels has conducted a survey to find out which gadgets really are the worst gadgets of all time. Although it was a tough fight, with each one of the worst gadget contenders giving their all, the gadget that came out on top was the shower radio.

 

The sorry excuse for a gadget was awarded the crown of worst gadget of all time due to a number of factors. The first one being that they regularly broke because water would leak into the batteries. On top of this, most of the radios suffered from poor sound quality, difficult usability and volumes so low that they are impossible to hear over the noise of the running water.

 

Other pointless gadgets that made it into the top ten worst gadgets of all time included the following:

 

  • Electric candles
  • Electric nail file
  • Soda stream
  • Teasmaid
  • Pancake maker
  • Fondue set
  • Electric fluff remover
  • Facial tanner
  • Egg slicer

 

Alongside the survey for the worst gadgets of all time also came the best gadgets of all time. The results from that were not too surprising. The most popular was the television, with gadgets like the washing machine, toaster and vacuum cleaner also performing well. All of the top gadgets of all time were noted to be items that aid every day life and can’t live without them. It just goes to show that some gadgets are actually worthy and lots can actually make perfect gifts. Items like ipod alarms and flying lanterns are great fun to have around the house. However, if you’re looking for gadgets that aid everyday life, maybe projector alarm clocks would be better.

Green Gadgets and Technology

It seems like everybody these days is talking about “Going Green” and “Being Green.”  Everywhere you turn you see advertisings or products promoting the green movement.  One big part of being green and helping save the environment is cutting back on the amount of electricity you use and in return reducing your carbon foot print.  Well just because you are a electronics and gadget freak does not mean that you can not do your to help save the environment.  There are a lot of green gadgets out there that I’m sure you will find very cool and cutting edge.  Not only can you help save the environment you can put some green back into your pocket at the same time.

When you think of green gadgets the first thing that comes to your mind will probably be devices like solar panels and wind generators.  Well some of those items could definitely be classified as gadgets but there are a lot more green gadgets than these.  Also some that are a lot more affordable.

One of my favorite green gadgets are devices that tell you exactly how much electricity you are using in real time.  One of the best of these devices is called the Kill-A-Watt.  You simply plug the device into your home outlet and then plug any type of electronic or appliance into the Kill-A-Watt.  The device will tell you how much electricity you are using.  Using a device like the Kill-A-Watt you can find out exactly what items in your house are using the most electricity and then take action to cut that usage down.

Another set of green gadgets that can help you save the environment and money at the same time are gadgets to reduce the amount of water that you use on a daily basis.  There are several different types of gadgets that you can install on your shower heads and faucets around the house so you can easily adjust and reduce the amount of water you are using.

Saving the environment and being green has never been easier.  Using the latest technology and breakthroughs companies are producing electronics and gadgets that will help you do just that.

In an age of computers, gadgets, gizmos, cell phones, and electronics everyone wants to be the first to produce, own, or buy the latest technology. Just like athletes competing to be bigger, faster, and stronger we want our gadgets to have bigger storage capacity, run faster, and be strong enough to handle all of our technology needs.

For many people, having the latest technology is no problem. The newest cell phone came out; many will go out and buy it. A larger, thinner TV with a clearer picture just hit the shelves, get rid of the old TV for the bigger, better, newer version. However, technology changes so quickly that the average person is not able to always have the latest gadget or electronic the minute it’s available. One advantage to the ever changing face of technology, on the other hand, is that the older versions of certain gadgets and electronics become more affordable and accessible as newer versions are created.

So just what are the latest technology fads and newest gadgets that people just must have? It seems that most people are looking for the gadget that will make life easier. They want one gadget that will do more than one task so they can work on their multi-tasking skills as well. People want to be entertained, keep up with news, and write their grocery list all with the same electronic gadget. Another aspect people look for in the latest technology is the largest amount of memory or storage possible in the smallest, most portable container possible.

Take for example, the new iPhone and iPod from Apple, the latest technology in cell phones. At the very least, it is of course an electronic gadget that makes phone calls. But it also acts as an electronic photo album, PDA, computer, game system, camera, video camera, and any other tool or iPod gadget you can think of all rolled into one small, sleek looking gadget that everyone wants to have. The must-have iPhone allows the lucky owner to basically take care of all of their daily appointments, calls, and tasks from one location. Although its appearance may have gotten smaller, the latest technology in cell phones has definitely gotten bigger, faster, and stronger.

There are literally hundreds of spy gadgets out there for use in the home, business and even for a bit of fun. When narrowed down these really could be the top 3 spy gadgets out there right now.

One crime in every 1000 cameras

The latest research has shown that just one crime a year will be solved by the aid of CCTV cameras across the country. Since the release of this information the public are in uproar over the excessive use of surveillance equipment in and around almost every city.

A local Chief Detective said officers should do more to make use of evidence captured by the cameras which are practically on almost every street corner around the country. Video surveillance and does not mix well with Joe public. The latest statistic does strongly emphasise the effectiveness of the CCTV cameras around the country. Why on earth would we require CCTV if it is not even working very well – I don’t see the logic personally in computer surveillance? Either way the people responsible for implementing these systems have some answering to do as their use is quickly being challenged by these latest figures to be released. In my opinion it is only a matter of time before they have mobile phone tracking hooked up on all of us! Granted, that may be a little over the top but none the less it is natural to believe that we are living in a big brother society.

Recent statistical research has pointed out to us that computer video technology has been extremely useful in preventing cars and vans from being stolen and vandalised. To help out with this problem people have been investing money into vehicle tracking devices which radically increases the chance of getting your car if it has been stolen. Yet the massive investment into video surveillance is still an enormous expense with little effectiveness and it creates a huge intrusion of human privacy but does not provide any improvement on our own security. What can we do? Is it worth keeping hold of these cameras in our streets? Should we get rid of them all together? You would think that no Government official would be thinking that the statistics would be as low as they are but then again I hope that they are planning for something to be done. Let’s see what happens..
