Awesome TIE Fighter Speakers Flew Out of Star Wars and Into Your Living Room

These TIE Fighter speakers come to us from a company called Question Mark Entertainment, and as far as their specs go, that company name is just about right. We have no idea what sort of drivers are in these two, dare we say, satellite speakers and their accompanying subwoofer, but if looks could kill, our Death Star would be completely exploding just about now.

Hit up the jump for another view of these speakers that look realistic enough to have some tiny bad guys inside, but looks aren’t everything—let’s hope they sound good enough so we won’t want to immediately shoot them down. Plus, we’ll solve part of the mystery of this company that’s a bit more than a Question Mark, after the jump.

The purveyor of these cool-looking speakers is not quite completely mysterious, because we’ve seen products from this Question Mark Entertainment group before, namely its Motion Speaker with its kooky disco lighting and motion-sensitive volume control.

Question Mark Entertainment is no stranger to Star Wars gear, either, introducing its R2D2 Skype Webcam and the R2D2 DVD Projector at CES in January.

These TIE Fighter speakers are just out of the prototype stage, and will be rolled out at CeBIT, the big consumer electronics confab in Hannover, Germany that starts tomorrow. – Charlie White

Skype Founders Target Internet TV

skype.jpg
Skype revolutionised free Internet calling and is doing well on the video call front too. After all, being snapped up for almost £1.5bn by Ebay in 2005, means it had to be doing something right, right?

The fledgling, yet competitive, Internet TV space is the target for the latest venture for the Skype founders, who have just unveiled Joost – pronounced Juiced. It will work similar to Skype in that you download an piece of free software but instead of calling anyone, it will hunt the Web for Net TV content you might want to watch.

Not all that revolutionary in itself but they say Joost will be the first broadcast-quality TV service online. That’s full-screen, broadcast-quality video with instant channel flipping. Sounds peachy.

The service, being trialled now, is due to go live in the coming months.-Martin Lynch

How To Increase Your Skype Call Quality

The guys at Labrats have a video up on how to increase the quality of your Skype calls. For both the video-phobic and the work-bound, here’s a summary of what they talk about:

1. Set your router to give your Skype PC a static IP address.
2. Open a Skypish port to that static IP.
3. Give this port number to skype.

4. Set priority to that port over other ports/PCs. Only applicable if you have a router that supports this.

All straightforward stuff that may help you if you’re having some quality problems with your Skype calls.

RTX Dualphone: First PC-less Cordless Skype Phone

We’ve reviewed Skype phones before that can make calls on both the Skype network and the regular landline, but the RTX Dualphone is the first one that can do both without the need of a PC.

The RTX comes with a charging dock, a base station, and a handset. The base station connects into your ethernet network and your landline, meaning you’re free to take the cordless handset anywhere in your house. Even that closet your wife stores her letters from her old lovers in. It’s £109.99, so it’s not exactly as the non-standalone phones. T’is the price of progress. – Jason Chen
